The National Geographic Documentary Film TIME AND WATER is set to make its streaming debut later this summer, arriving on Disney+ on August 1st, 2026. The film world premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and launched in US theaters via 1-2 Special on May 29th, 2026. It will have its television premiere on the National Geographic Channel on July 31st, 2026, at 9p ET.
Time and Water is produced and directed by Sara Dosa, who was nominated for an Oscar for directing the 2022 documentary Fire of Love.
In the film, renowned Icelandic poet and author, Andri Snær Magnason, is chasing something elusive. As the glacial ice of his homeland melts, he constructs a time capsule to hold onto this moment and send it to the future, before everything he loves slips away. Using his own collected archives, his grandparents’ photographs and films as well as traditional songs and folktales, Andri interlaces his family’s story with that of the land around him.
We’ve added the release date to our Streaming Calendar. Check out the film’s official trailer and poster below.
