Upstart distributor 1-2 Special is set to release Radu Jude’s satirical horror comedy DRACULA on VOD and digital platforms early next month, arriving on January 2nd, 2026. The film world premiered at this year’s Locarno Film Festival before launching in US theaters on October 29th, 2025.
Dracula is written and directed by Radu Jude and is loosely inspired by Bram Stoker’s Dracula. It stars Adonis Tanța, Oana Maria Zaharia, Gabriel Spahiu, Ilinca Manolache, Alexandru Dabija, Andrada Balea, Doru Talos, Serban Pavlu, Lukas Miko, and Alexandra Harapu.
In the film, a frustrated filmmaker, facing creative paralysis, turns to an A.I. chatbot in order to make his latest movie a hit. The result is a series of increasingly outrageous vignettes exploring the myth of Dracula in all its forms. From a wild chase through the streets of modern Transylvania to eerie hauntings in the Romanian countryside, cinematic provocateur Radu Jude returns with another boundary-pushing epic featuring a union-busting Dracula breaking a strike, an adaptation of the first Romania vampire novella, thwarted romance, fields of phalluses, lots of blood, and much more.
