Oscar Nominated THE APPRENTICE Finally Hits a Streaming Service

Ali Abbasi’s Oscar-nominated drama THE APPRENTICE has finally arrived on SVOD, launching on Prime Video today, November 8th, 2025. The film world premiered at last year’s Cannes Film Festival before debuting in US theaters on October 11th, 2024. It hit PVOD over a year ago on November 1st, 2024.

The Apprentice was directed by Ali Abbasi and written by Gabriel Sherman. It stars Sebastian Stan as Donald Trump, along with Jeremy Strong, Maria Bakalova, and Martin Donovan.

In the film, a young Donald Trump, eager to make his name as a hungry scion of a wealthy family in 1970s New York, comes under the spell of Roy Cohn, the cutthroat attorney who would help create the Donald Trump we know today. Cohn sees in Trump the perfect protégé—someone with raw ambition, a hunger for success, and a willingness to do whatever it takes to win.

After premiering at the 77th Cannes Film Festival on May 20, 2024, the film struggled to find American distribution due to its subject matter and an attempt by Trump’s legal team to block its release. Briarcliff Entertainment eventually bought the rights, and the film received generally positive reviews from critics but only grossed about $4M at the domestic box-office.

It did find success on the awards circuit. Sebastian Stan was nominated for Best Actor at the Golden Globes, Independent Spirit Awards, and the Academy Awards. Jeremy Strong received nominations in the Best Supporting Actor category at the Globes, Spirits and Oscars, plus a nom at the Screen Actors Guild Awards.
