The Forecast: ‘Elevated Horror.’ It’s a term that’s been rightly ridiculed as elitist and reductive. Horror is a massive genre, with many different sub-genres that are constantly evolving and being reinvented. A24 has carved out a terrific niche for themselves, cultivating talented emerging filmmakers (Ari Aster, Ti West, Robert Eggers) and giving them creative freedom to produce sellable genre films.
Using that formula, A24 find themselves with one of the biggest success stories of the summer. TALK TO ME, a film produced for a mere $4.5M, has already grossed $25M worldwide (with more to come). It’s an Australian supernatural horror film directed by Danny and Michael Philippou, and follows a group of teenagers who discover they are able to contact spirits using a mysterious embalmed hand, only for one of them to take things too far.
So when can we expect it to launch on VOD/digital platforms and Paramount+ w/Showtime? Let’s first take a look at some comps from prior A24 releases:

We’re including Past Lives, as it may give the clearest indication of where A24’s streaming strategy currently stands. It’s 2022 windows are not consistent, but the two 2023 releases we’re highlighting feel more indicative.
We predict that Talk to Me will follow the windowing of Beau is Afraid and Past Lives, and will stay exclusive theatrically for 60 days. It will then take the usual 6+ months to reach SVOD.
