When to Stream’s Weekly Tracking Report
Welcome to When To Stream’s Weekly Tracking Report. Every Friday, we’ll break down the film titles whose first window streaming premieres are still not confirmed. This column will not examine second window SVOD premieres, though we’ll obviously still be tracking and reporting those.
One note: There are hundreds of new films every year, and we’re not able to track or highlight every single one. For now, we concentrate on major studio and indie distributor releases.
Here are the film titles (in order of theatrical release) we are currently tracking:
Theatrical Release Date: December 1, 2023
Theatrical Release Date: March 8, 2024
Tracking: The film launched and is available to stream for Angel Guild investors. It hasn’t yet launched on digital, but it should be within the next week or two.

VOD/Digital Estimate: Early/Mid June 2024
Theatrical Release Date: April 5, 2024
Tracking: A Janus Films release, so look for this to stay theatrical-exclusive for at least 90 days, and then land on The Criterion Channel sometime in July.

Theatrical Release Date: April 19, 2024
Tracking: This Sony Pictures Classics has likely hit its theater count peak. We’re holding on our estimate for now.

Theatrical Release Date: May 3, 2024
Tracking: A Janus Films release, which means a likely 90-day theatrical window. Look for this one to hit the Criterion Channel and digital later in the summer.

Tracking: A24 has put this up for pre-order, and it’s priced for PVOD. We’re estimating that means it’ll come to digital in the next few weeks.

Theatrical Release Date: May 3, 2024
Tracking: Oscilloscope is rolling this Ethan Hawke-directed drama slowly. Look for it to hit digital in the summer.

Theatrical Release Date: May 10, 2024
Tracking: Disney has been keeping their titles theatrical-exclusive longer than most other studios. We’re estimating this will ape (ha!) Guardians Vol. 3 window, which was 60 days.

Tracking: A 6/4 PVOD release date is expected.

Tracking: Paramount has been pretty consistent with their releases, maintaining a standard 30-day theatrical exclusive window. Unless this title breaks out in a huge way, we’re estimating they’ll stick to that strategy.

Tracking: A 6/7 PVOD release date is expected.

Tracking: In line with their previous limited release (Stress Positions), we’re estimating this well-reviewed comedy from NEON will also stay theatrical-exclusive for at least a month.

Tracking: Warner Bros has been consistent with keeping their theatrical windows at 45 days. We’re estimating they’ll do the same for this summer blockbuster.

Tracking: Using Sony’s Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire as a comp, this kids title should also receive at least 45 days in theaters exclusively. The studio does show flexibility if a title flops (or hits big), so we’ll adjust accordingly based on box-office.

Tracking: This Cohen Media Group title expands this weekend, and will continue to go wider in the coming weeks. Look for a digital launch in early July.

Tracking: Like most Angel Studios releases, this title will likely hit the company’s streaming platform after 30 days, and then come to digital a month after that.

Tracking: This Bleecker Street release is going relatively wide this weekend (~1300 theaters). It’s priced for PVOD, so we’re using their earlier 2024 title One Life as a comp. That film hit digital after 25 days, which feels right for Ezra.

Tracking: Roadside Attractions releases aimed at older audiences tend to stay theatrical exclusive longer. Both My Happy Ending and Moving On came to digital after 45 days, so we’re using those as comps for this title.

Tracking: We’ll see how this Disney title performs in limited release this weekend. It was originally slated as a direct-to-Disney+ title, so we imagine they won’t be shy to pull the trigger on digital if it underperforms in theaters.

Tracking: This Shout! Studios release is out in moderate release this weekend, and as with most Shout! titles, we’re estimating it’ll be available on digital in about three weeks.

Tracking: One of two NEON releases this weekend, we’re estimating this one will make a quicker pivot to digital than the second.

Tracking: IFC Films is going quite wide (~1400 theaters) this weekend, with a likely digital release similar to their hit Late Night with the Devil, which launched on VOD after 4 weeks.

Tracking: The second NEON release of the weekend, we’re estimating the distributor will take its time rolling this Oscar-nominee out in theaters. They waited this long to bring it to theaters, it seems unlikely they’ll rush it to VOD.
