When to Stream’s Weekly Tracking Report

Welcome to When To Stream’s Weekly Tracking Report. Every Friday, we’ll break down the film titles whose first window streaming premieres are still not confirmed. This column will not examine second window SVOD premieres, though we’ll obviously still be tracking and reporting those.

One note: There are hundreds of new films every year, and we’re not able to track or highlight every single one. For now, we concentrate on major studio and indie distributor releases.

Here are the film titles (in order of theatrical release) we are currently tracking:

THE FIRST SLAM DUNK

Theatrical Release Date: July 28, 2023

Tracking: GKids announced a 6/25 release date for the blu-ray, though no streaming date was mentioned. Still…progress! Our estimate is adjusted accordingly.

Pre-Order Availability: No

PVOD Estimate: June 2024

Theatrical Release Date: December 1, 2023

Tracking: It launched on Prime Video in Japan a few weeks ago, but no indication where or when it will be available in the US. We’re still hopeful an announcement will be made soon.

Pre-Order Availability: No

PVOD Estimate: Early/Mid June 2024

Theatrical Release Date: December 1, 2023

Tracking: Still no word on streaming plans for this concert film. We were hoping the release of Cowboy Carter might trigger some sort of announcement, but nothing. The lack of pre-order doesn’t give us much confidence we’ll see this soon. Holding on our estimate for now.

Pre-Order Availability: No

PVOD Estimate: Early/Mid June 2024

Theatrical Release Date: February 2, 2024

Tracking: Indie distributor Big World Pictures is handling this Franz Rogowski drama, and we don’t have much tracking info on their releases. It’s still rolling out in theaters across the country. Holding on our estimate for now.

Pre-Order Availability: No

VOD/Digital Estimate: Late May/Early June 2024

Theatrical Release Date: February 23, 2024

Tracking: A 5/21 Criterion Channel launch date was announced.

Theatrical Release Date: March 8, 2024

Tracking: The film launched and is available to stream for Angel Guild investors. That means it’s likely to hit digital by the end of the month.

Pre-Order Availability: Yes ($19.99)

VOD/Digital Estimate: Late May 2024

Theatrical Release Date: April 5, 2024

Tracking: A 5/28 digital date and 5/30 Hulu launch date was announced.

Theatrical Release Date: April 5, 2024

Tracking: A Janus Films release, so look for this to stay theatrical-exclusive for at least 90 days, and then land on The Criterion Channel sometime in July.

Pre-Order Availability: No

VOD/Digital/SVOD Estimate: July 2024 (The Criterion Channel)

Theatrical Release Date: April 12, 2024

Tracking: A 5/24 PVOD release date was announced.

Theatrical Release Date: April 19, 2024

Tracking: A 5/21 VOD/Digital release date is set.

Theatrical Release Date: April 19, 2024

Tracking: Sony Pictures Classics continues to expand this Spirit Award nominee this weekend. We’re still anticipating at least a two-month theatrical window.

Pre-Order Availability: No

VOD/Digital Estimate: Mid June 2024

Theatrical Release Date: April 26, 2024

Tracking: A 5/28 VOD/Digital release date is expected.

Theatrical Release Date: May 3, 2024

Tracking: A 5/21 PVOD release date is expected.

Theatrical Release Date: May 3, 2024

Tracking: A Screen Gems release, which is a division of Sony. Their titles tend to have much shorter windows, so we’re estimating this PG-13 horror title will pivot to PVOD relatively quickly.

Pre-Order Availability: Yes ($14.99)

PVOD Estimate: Late May/Early June 2024

Theatrical Release Date: May 3, 2024

Tracking: A Janus Films release, which means a likely 90-day theatrical window. Look for this one to hit the Criterion Channel and digital later in the summer.

Pre-Order Availability: No

SVOD/VOD/Digital Estimate: August 2024 (Criterion Channel)

Theatrical Release Date: May 3, 2024

Tracking: A24 is slowly expanding this title, with a wide release planned this weekend. We’re estimating a digital release about a month from now.

Pre-Order Availability: No

VOD/Digital Estimate: Mid June 2024

Theatrical Release Date: May 3, 2024

Tracking: Oscilloscope is rolling this Ethan Hawke-directed drama slowly. Look for it to hit digital in the summer.

Pre-Order Availability: Yes ($12.99)

VOD/Digital Estimate: July 2024

Theatrical Release Date: May 10, 2024

Tracking: Disney has been keeping their titles theatrical-exclusive longer than most other studios. We’re estimating this will ape (ha!) Guardians Vol. 3 window, which was 60 days.

Pre-Order Availability: No

VOD/Digital Estimate: Early/Mid July 2024

Theatrical Release Date: May 10, 2024

Tracking: Distributor Vertical Entertainment tends to consistently release their films on digital three weeks after theatrical launch. That sounds about right for this Chris Pine-directed comedy.

Pre-Order Availability: Yes ($14.99)

VOD/Digital Estimate: End of May 2024

Theatrical Release Date: May 17, 2024

Tracking: A Focus Features release, so look for the usual 18-day theatrical window. Same as always.

Pre-Order Availability: Yes ($24.99)

PVOD Estimate: June 4, 2024

Theatrical Release Date: May 17, 2024

Tracking: Paramount has been pretty consistent with their releases, maintaining a standard 30-day theatrical exclusive window. Unless this title breaks out in a huge way, we’re estimating they’ll stick to that strategy.

Pre-Order Availability: Yes ($24.99)

PVOD Estimate: Mid June 2024

Theatrical Release Date: May 17, 2024

Tracking: Lionsgate’s horror titles have consistently received a 3-week theatrical window, which we’re estimating for this Renny Harlin-directed horror thriller.

Pre-Order Availability: Yes ($24.99)

PVOD Estimate: Early June 2024

Theatrical Release Date: May 17, 2024

Tracking: In line with their previous limited release (Stress Positions), we’re estimating this well-reviewed comedy from NEON will also stay theatrical-exclusive for at least a month.

Pre-Order Availability: No

VOD/Digital Estimate: Mid/Late June 2024
