Welcome to When To Stream’s super-sized monthly preview! We’re here to give you an overview of the top streaming titles (including PVOD, Digital, and SVOD) expected in November 2024, and also give a glimpse at the films we expect to launch this month, but have not yet been announced.

THE APPRENTICE (PVOD)
Synopsis: A young Donald Trump, eager to make his name as a hungry scion of a wealthy family in 1970s New York, comes under the spell of Roy Cohn, the cutthroat attorney who would help create the Donald Trump we know today. Cohn sees in Trump the perfect protégé—someone with raw ambition, a hunger for success, and a willingness to do whatever it takes to win.
Fun Fact: The producers launched a Kickstarter campaign to get this movie released in U.S. theaters after big distributors backed off from fear of legal action from Donald Trump.
THE DEAD DON’T HURT (Paramount+ w/Showtime)
Synopsis: In the 1860s, fiercely independent French-Canadian Vivienne Le Coudy embarks on a journey with Danish immigrant Holger Olsen, attempting to forge a life together in the dusty town of Elk Flats, Nevada. When Holger decides to go fight for the Union in the burgeoning Civil War, Vivienne must fend for herself, which isn't easy in a town controlled by a corrupt mayor.
Fun Fact: Four languages are spoken in the film: English, French, Spanish and Danish. On several occasions, languages are mixed within the same line of dialogue.
DOC OF CHUCKY (Shudder, AMC+)
Synopsis: The story of the cult horror empire through interviews with cast, crew, and horror icons such as Don Mancini, Brad Dourif, Jennifer Tilly, Catherine Hicks, Chris Sarandon, John Waters, Fiona Dourif, Perrey Reeves, Gerrit Graham, David Kirschner, and dozens more.
Fun Fact: We’ll never get over it. Nothing is more terrifying than this real life Chucky in Albertville, Alabama:
JANET PLANET (Max)
Synopsis: In rural Western Massachusetts, 11-year-old Lacy spends the summer of 1991 at home, enthralled by her own imagination and the attention of her mother, Janet. As the months pass, three visitors enter their orbit, all captivated by Janet.
Fun Fact: Director Annie Baker and star Julianne Nicholson both grew up in the Medford, Massachusetts area, which is where the film takes place.
MUSIC BY JOHN WILLIAMS (Disney+)
Synopsis: From his early days as a jazz pianist to his 54 Oscar nominations and five wins, this documentary celebrates Williams’ countless contributions to the moving image arts, music for the concert stage, as well as his indelible impact on popular culture.
Fun Fact: John Williams has a record 54 Oscar nominations, and 5 Oscar wins.
WHITE BIRD (PVOD)
Synopsis: After being expelled from Beecher Prep for his treatment of a classmate with a facial deformity, Julian has struggled to fit in at his new school. To transform his life, Julian's grandmother finally reveals her own story of courage of her youth in Nazi-occupied France, where a classmate shelters her from mortal danger.
Sad Fact: This is the final film produced by Participant Media. Founder Jeffrey Skoll announced that the company would be winding down operations after two decades, with nearly all of its staff being dismissed and development of new content ceasing entirely.

A DIFFERENT MAN (PVOD)
Synopsis: Aspiring actor Edward undergoes a radical medical procedure to drastically transform his appearance. But his new dream face quickly turns into a nightmare, as he loses out on the role he was born to play and becomes obsessed with reclaiming what was lost.
Fun Fact: Charlie Korsmo, a former child actor who appeared in Dick Tracy, What About Bob?, and Hook, has a small role in the film. It is his first theatrical feature since 1998’s Can’t Hardly Wait. After leaving acting, he became a law professor.
IN THE SUMMERS (VOD/Digital)
Synopsis: On a journey that spans the formative years of their lives, two sisters navigate their loving but volatile father during their yearly summer visits to his home in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
Fun Fact: The film won the Grand Jury Prize Dramatic as well as the U.S. Dramatic Award for Directing, Screenwriting and Editing at this year’s Sundance Film Festival.
THE OUTRUN (PVOD)
Synopsis: Rona, fresh out of rehab, returns to the Orkney Islands; a place both wild and beautiful right off the Scottish coast. After more than a decade of living life on the edge in London, where she both found and lost love, Rona – now 29 – attempts to come to terms with her troubled past. As she reconnects with the dramatic landscape where she grew up, memories of her traumatic childhood merge with more recent challenging events that have set her on the path to recovery.
Fun Fact: The lamb birthing scene in the film is completely real. Saoirse Ronan learned how to properly birth a lamb from a farmer on the Orkney Islands, and it took Ronan and Director Nora Fingscheidt seven takes, delivering seven different lambs.

MEET ME NEXT CHRISTMAS (Netflix)
Synopsis: On a quest to meet the man of her dreams, a hopeless romantic races across New York City to find a ticket to a sold-out Pentatonix Christmas concert.
Fun Fact: Filmmaker Rusty Cundieff also directed the 1995 cult horror film Tales From the Hood.

LOOK BACK (Prime Video)
Synopsis: Popular, outgoing Fujino is celebrated by her classmates for her funny comics in the class newspaper. One day, her teacher asks her to share the space with Kyomoto, a truant recluse whose beautiful artwork sparks a competitive fervor in Fujino. What starts as jealousy transforms when Fujino realizes their shared passion for drawing.
Fun Fact: The names of the two protagonists (Fujino and Kyomoto) can be combined to form "Fujimoto", the surname of the original manga author, Tatsuki Fujimoto.
MY OLD ASS (Prime Video)
Synopsis: An 18th birthday mushroom trip brings free-spirited Elliott face-to-face with her wisecracking 39-year-old self. But when Elliott’s "old ass" starts handing out warnings about what her younger self should and shouldn't do, Elliott realizes she has to rethink everything about family, love, and what's becoming a transformative summer.
Fun Fact: The film reunites writer/director Megan Park and actress Maddie Ziegler, who worked together on Park's directorial debut The Fallout (2022).

Synopsis: Darren Barrenman, an unwavering optimist and native Angeleno, spends his days looking after the pool of the Tahitian Tiki apartment block and fighting to make his hometown a better place to live.

Synopsis: A group of New York City psychics conduct deeply intimate readings for their clients, revealing a kaleidoscope of loneliness, connection, and healing.
Fun Fact: Director Lana Wilson’s last film was the Taylor Swift documentary Miss Americana.
MAGPIE (VOD/Digital)
Synopsis: A couple's lives are thrown into disarray when their daughter is cast opposite a controversial major star.
Fun Fact: The original story of the film was conceived and developed by star Daisy Ridley.
MEGALOPOLIS (PVOD)
Synopsis: Genius artist Cesar Catilina seeks to leap the City of New Rome into a utopian, idealistic future, while his opposition, Mayor Franklyn Cicero, remains committed to a regressive status quo, perpetuating greed, special interests, and partisan warfare. Torn between them is socialite Julia Cicero, the mayor’s daughter, whose love for Cesar has divided her loyalties, forcing her to discover what she truly believes humanity deserves.
Fun Fact: Francis Ford Coppola financed the entire $120 million film out of his own pocket. He had done the same with Apocalypse Now (1979) and One from the Heart (1981), and the failure of the latter made him declare bankruptcy. All his subsequent films up to The Rainmaker (1997) were made to pay off his debts.

Synopsis: Widow Cathy magically brings snowman Jack to life, whose innocence helps her to heal and find love again. They bond before the holidays, but he's doomed to melt.
Fun Fact: Chrishell Stause, who has a supporting role in the film, won an MTV Movie & TV Award for Best Reality Star for the Netflix real estate series Selling Sunset.
EMILIA PÉREZ (Netflix)
Synopsis: Rita, an underrated lawyer working for a large law firm more interested in getting criminals out of jail than bringing them to justice, is hired by the leader of a criminal organization.
Fun Fact: For their performances in the film, the female cast shared the Best Actress Award at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, and Karla Sofía Gascón became the first trans actor to win an acting prize at Cannes.

CLOSE TO YOU (Netflix)
Synopsis: A trans man returns to his hometown for the first time in years. On his journey, he confronts his relationship with his family, reunites with a first love, and discovers a newfound confidence in himself.
Fun Fact: The movie's dialog is mostly improvised, following a written script outline.
THE LAST BREATH (AMC+)
Synopsis: A group of old college friends reunite on a Caribbean scuba diving trip exploring the wreckage of a WWII battleship and find themselves trapped inside the underwater labyrinth of rusted metal surrounded by great white sharks.
Sad Fact: Actor Julian Sands’ last movie, released almost a year and a half after his death.
THELMA (Hulu)
Synopsis: When 93-year-old Thelma Post gets duped by a phone scammer pretending to be her grandson, she sets out on a treacherous quest across the city to reclaim what was taken from her.
Sad Fact: Richard Roundtree's final film role before his passing in October 2023, three months before the film's world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival.
TWISTERS (Peacock)
Synopsis: As storm season intensifies, the paths of former storm chaser Kate Carter and reckless social-media superstar Tyler Owens collide when terrifying phenomena never seen before are unleashed. The pair and their competing teams find themselves squarely in the paths of multiple storm systems converging over central Oklahoma in the fight of their lives.
Fun Fact: Glen Powell's parents appear in the movie, sitting behind him and Daisy Edgar-Jones during the rodeo scene. According to Powell, his parents have appeared in all of his movies since 2003’s Spy Kids 3-D.

WATCHMEN: CHAPTER 1 (Max)
Synopsis: In 1985, the murder of a government-sponsored superhero draws his outlawed colleagues out of retirement and into a mystery that threatens to upend their personal lives and the world itself.
Fun Fact: The film makes its Max debut a week before Watchmen: Chapter II arrives on digital.

Synopsis: In World War II London, nine-year-old George is evacuated to the countryside by his mother, Rita, to escape the bombings. Defiant and determined to return to his family, George embarks on an epic, perilous journey back home as Rita searches for him.
Fun Fact: British musician Paul Weller, who achieved fame with the bands The Jam and The Style Council, makes his film debut playing Saoirse Ronan’s father.
BREAD & ROSES (Apple TV+)
Synopsis: In the wake of the Taliban's return to power, a group of Kabul women lead a revolutionary fight for their rights—and their lives.
Fun Fact: The film was produced by Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence and Justine Ciarrocchi under their company Excellent Cadaver, which they founded in 2018.
FIREBRAND (Hulu)
Synopsis: Katherine Parr, the sixth wife of King Henry VIII, is named regent while the tyrant battles abroad. When the king returns, increasingly ill and paranoid, Katherine finds herself fighting for her own survival.
Fun Fact: Michelle Williams was originally cast as Katherine Parr but dropped out due to scheduling conflicts.
THE GOOD HALF (Hulu)
Synopsis: Renn Wheeland returns home to Cleveland for his mother's funeral. Once there, he forges new relationships while healing old ones, before confronting his problems and trying to face his grief.
Fun Fact: Director Robert Schwartzman is part of the Coppola clan. His mother is Talia Shire, brother is Jason Schwartzman, cousins are Nicolas Cage and Sofia Coppola, and uncle is Francis Ford Coppola.
JOY (Netflix)
Synopsis: Three trailblazers – a young nurse, a visionary scientist and an innovative surgeon – face opposition from the church, state, media and medical establishment in their pursuit of the world's first 'test tube baby', Louise Joy Brown.
Fun Fact: Co-lead Bill Nighy bookends this film with two voice roles. He played Longneck in The Wild Robot and voices a role in Richard Curtis’ upcoming animated holiday film That Christmas.
THE PIANO LESSON (Netflix)
Synopsis: A brother and sister's battle over a prized heirloom piano unleashes haunting truths about how the past is perceived — and who defines a family legacy.
Fun Fact: Samuel L. Jackson, John David Washington, Ray Fisher and Michael Potts all starred together in the Broadway production of The Piano Lesson from 2022-2023.
SPELLBOUND (Netflix)
Synopsis: The story of Ellian, a teenager who comes of age using her magical powers to defend her family when the opposing forces of light and darkness threaten to divide her kingdom.
Fun Fact: This is Nicole Kidman's first theatrically released animated film since 2006’s Happy Feet.

WATCHMEN: CHAPTER II (VOD/Digital)
Synopsis: Suspicious of the events ensnaring their former colleagues, Nite Owl and Silk Spectre are spurred out of retirement to investigate. As they grapple with personal ethics, inner demons and a society turned against them, they race the clock to uncover a deepening plot that might trigger global nuclear war.

OUT COME THE WOLVES (Shudder, AMC+)
