THE HOLDOVERS Digital Streaming Date Likely Set, Not Quite Confirmed

Alexander Payne’s THE HOLDOVERS expanded from 778 to 1475 theaters this weekend, and brought in an estimated $2.7M to lift its domestic box-office cume to $8.35M. That’s a solid number for a film that boasts no big stars and no obvious narrative hook to attract big crowds. Instead, the film has earned excellent reviews and Oscar buzz, likely driving the older arthouse audience to seek it out in theaters.

But as we’ve mentioned in our weekly tracking report, The Holdovers is likely to follow in the footsteps of other Focus Features and Universal titles by quickly making its PVOD debut after a short exclusive theatrical window. The film is available for pre-order on a number of digital retail sites, and it’s priced at a premium ($29.99). All the usual indications are in place.

And now we have the first retailer to list the VOD release date for the film. One caveat: It’s a Canadian distributor. So while US and Canada release dates often align, there are sometimes discrepancies. We’re not quite ready to call the date confirmed. We’ll make the official call when another (US) retailer corroborates the date.

Here’s the screenshot of the listing on Bell Canada’s website:

It certainly looks like The Holdovers PVOD date will indeed be November 28th, 2023. We’ll post and add to our streaming calendar as soon as were able to 100% confirm.
