THE BOY AND THE HERON Gets Theatrical Re-Release Before Digital Launch

Studio Ghibli was a big winner at last night’s Oscars, taking home the award for Best Animated Feature for Hayao Miyazaki’s THE BOY AND THE HERON. The film has been in theatrical release in the US since December 8th, 2023, and is not yet available for digital or VOD streaming.

And it looks like it’ll be a while before it’s home viewing launch. GKids is planning a re-release of the film in theaters:

As it says, no specifics yet on the theatrical re-release. But…iTunes did just reduce the price on the the digital pre-order from $19.99 to $14.99. We’re not sure if that’s only for a limited time, so if you’re planning on buying, now might be the time.

We’ll be looking out for the digital release date and post with any news.
