The Oscar-nominated drama NICKEL BOYS is set to expand its SVOD footprint later this month, arriving on Prime Video on April 29th, 2025. The film world premiered at last year’s Telluride Film Festival before launching in US theaters in limited release on December 13th, 2024. It hit PVOD on February 11th, 2025, and made its SVOD debut on MGM+ on February 28th. The film will continue to be available on MGM+.

Nickel Boys is based on the 2019 novel The Nickel Boys by Colson Whitehead. It was directed by RaMell Ross, who wrote the screenplay with Joslyn Barnes, and stars Ethan Herisse, Brandon Wilson, Hamish Linklater, Fred Hechinger, Daveed Diggs, Jimmie Fails, and Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor.

The story follows two African-American boys, Elwood (Herisse) and Turner (Wilson), who are sent to an abusive reform school in 1960s Florida. The film is inspired by the Dozier School for Boys, a now-closed Florida reform school notorious for its abusive treatment of students.

Nickel Boys was nominated for two Oscars: Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay.
