Oscar Nominated Documentary SUGARCANE Gets Digital Streaming Release Date

The National Geographic documentary SUGARCANE is set to make its retail debut tomorrow, arriving on digital platforms on February 25th, 2025. The film world premiered at last year’s Sundance Film Festival, where it won the US Documentary Directing Award, and launched in US theaters on August 9th, 2024. It arrived on Hulu and Disney+, where it continues to be available, on December 10th, 2024.
Sugarcane was directed by Julian Brave NoiseCat and Emily Kassie and produced by Emily Kassie and Kellen Quinn. It follows an investigation into the Canadian Indian residential school system, igniting a reckoning in the lives of survivors and descendants.
The film won the award for Best Documentary at the National Board of Review, and is nominated for Best Documentary Feature at the 97th Academy Awards.
