NICKEL BOYS Gets MGM+ Streaming Premiere Date
Amazon MGM has set an SVOD date for its Oscar nominated drama NICKEL BOYS, which is confirmed to begin streaming on MGM+ on February 28th, 2025. The film world premiered at last year’s Telluride Film Festival before launching in US theaters in limited release on December 13th, 2024.
A VOD/Digital premiere date has not been announced, though we expect it to launch on digital platforms sometime this month. We’ll post as soon as we have any news.
Nickel Boys is based on the 2019 novel The Nickel Boys by Colson Whitehead. It was directed by RaMell Ross, who wrote the screenplay with Joslyn Barnes, and stars Ethan Herisse, Brandon Wilson, Hamish Linklater, Fred Hechinger, Daveed Diggs, Jimmie Fails, and Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor.
The story follows two African-American boys, Elwood (Herisse) and Turner (Wilson), who are sent to an abusive reform school in 1960s Florida. The film is inspired by the Dozier School for Boys, a now-closed Florida reform school notorious for its abusive treatment of students.
Nickel Boys is nominated for two Oscars: Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay.
We’ve added the release date to our streaming calendar. Check out the film’s official trailer below.
