Netflix Shifts Six Films to 2024
As first reported by What’s On Netflix, six of Netflix’s high-profile 2023 films have been delayed to 2024. Some of theses titles were undated but announced as 2023, some had set launch dates. Let’s break it down:
A FAMILY AFFAIR
Probably the most star-studded title to be shifted. It had been slotted for November 17, 2023, a prime date for Thanksgiving viewing. This feels like it could have been impacted by the writer/actor strike, as none of the big name talent (Nicole Kidman, Zac Efron, Joey King) would be available to promote it. No 2024 premiere date has been announced.
DAMSEL
Netflix muse Millie Bobby Brown will be sitting out 2023, with no DAMSEL and no new STRANGER THINGS episodes. The film was scheduled to arrive October 13, 2023, but is now 2024 TBD.
LIFT
The Kevin Hart comedy was originally dated for August 2023, but now has a set premiere date of January 12, 2024.
PLAYERS
A romantic comedy starring Gina Rodriguez, Damon Wayans Jr. and Tom Ellis, PLAYERS was originally eyed for a Fall 2023 release, but is now undated for 2024.
SHIRLEY
With Netflix’s Q4 slate stacked with Oscar contenders (NYAD, RUSTIN, THE KILLER, MAESTRO), it’s no surprise SHIRLEY was pushed to 2024. With Regina King as trailblazing congresswoman Shirley Chisholm, we’re hoping the move isn’t a sign of low confidence in the film. No new date has been set.
SPACEMAN
The ambitious Adam Sandler sci-fi drama SPACEMAN will also not be released in 2023. This one’s been pushed back a few times, but for now, Adam Sandler fans will just have to re-watch the 20 other Netflix movies he’s made. No 2024 date has been set for SPACEMAN.
We’ll keep you updated as Netflix announces premiere dates for these titles.
