The Oscar-winning animated feature THE BOY AND THE HERON has an SVOD streaming premiere date, as it’s slated to launch on Max on September 6th, 2024. The film launched in US theaters on December 1st, 2023, before arriving on digital for purchase on June 25th, 2024.

The Boy and the Heron was written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki. Produced by Studio Ghibli, the film's Japanese title references Genzaburō Yoshino's 1937 novel of the same name but is not an adaptation of it. The Japanese voice cast includes Soma Santoki, Masaki Suda, Ko Shibasaki, Aimyon, Yoshino Kimura, Takuya Kimura, Kaoru Kobayashi, and Shinobu Otake.

Described as a "big, fantastical film", it follows a boy named Mahito Maki who moves to the countryside after his mother's death, discovers an abandoned tower near his new home, and enters a fantastical world with a talking grey heron.
