Banel & Adama

The Holly and the Ivy

A recently widowed minister is torn between his roles of clergyman and father in this charming and moving seasonal favorite set in post-war Britain. His zeal for attending to parishioners leads him to neglect his own family until emotions boil over. When Eight Bells Toll

A trail of deceit and subterfuge leads him to those who may hold the answers to the truth.

Russian Ark
Aleksandr Sokurov, Russia, 2002

Filmmaker Alexander Sokurov broke boundaries with his dreamlike vision of the Hermitage in St. Petersburg in the first feature-length narrative filmed in a single take. "Russian Ark" is shot from the point-of-view of an unseen narrator, as he explores the vast museum and travels through Russian history alongside a sarcastic and eccentric 19th century French Marquis.

Yvonne’s Perfume
Patrice Leconte, France, 1994

From acclaimed director Patrice Leconte ("Girl on the Bridge"), "Yvonne’s Perfume" is a mysterious and romantic drama of desire. In the early 1950s, on the shores of a lake wedged between France and Switzerland, a trio of holiday travelers meet, clash, and fall in and out of friendship and love. Adapted from the novel "Ville Triste" by Nobel Prize-winner Patrick Modiano.

Hairdressers Husband
Patrice Leconte, France, 1992

From Patrice Leconte, “The Hairdresser’s Husband” is a wildly erotic ode to wedded bliss. Starring the legendary Jean Rochefort and the incandescent Anna Galiena, it follows the life of young Antoine, who was obsessed with the bewitching beautician who cut his hair. As an adult, Antoine (Rochefort) meets a woman (Galiena) who seems to be the perfect incarnation of his childhood fantasies.

Loving Highsmith
Eva Vitija, Switzerland, Germany, 2022

This unique look at celebrated author Patricia Highsmith is based on her diaries, notebooks, and reflections of her lovers, friends, and family. Focusing on her quest for love and her troubled identity, the film sheds new light on the thriller writer’s life and oeuvre. Many of her novels were adapted for the big screen, including Alfred Hitchcock's “Strangers on a Train” and Todd Haynes' “Carol."

The Jazz Loft According to W. Eugene Smith

In 1950s Manhattan, a dingy loft building becomes the home and obsession of the brilliant photographer W. Eugene Smith – who leaves his family and moves there to live the artist’s life. Smith wires the building for sound and captures daily life at 821 Sixth Avenue, where jazz players gather all night, every night, for freewheeling jam sessions both hot and cool.
