GODZILLA MINUS ONE/MINUS COLOR Gets Netflix Streaming Premiere Date

As first reported by What’s on Netflix, the color desaturated GODZILLA MINUS ONE/MINUS COLOR will make its SVOD debut next month, arriving on Netflix on August 1st, 2024. The black-and-white version of the film was released in US theaters on January 26th, 2024.

Colorist Masahiro Ishiyama was assigned to create Minus Color. Yamazaki proposed that Godzilla's atomic breath should remain in color for the black-and-white edition, similar to how Akira Kurosawa's black-and-white crime film High and Low (1963) features colored smoke in one scene. However, this concept was rejected by the rest of the crew.

In regards to the Minus Color version, the director said in a statement: "Rather than just making it monochrome, it is a cut-by-cut. I had them make adjustments while making full use of various mattes as if they were creating a new movie."
