UPDATE: Digital Streaming Release Date Revised for Oscar Nominee THE SEED OF THE SACRED FIG

NEON will release their Oscar-nominated drama THE SEED OF THE SACRED FIG on VOD and digital platforms one week earlier than we previously reported, arriving on February 18th, 2025 February 11th, 2025. The film world premiered at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival before launching in US theaters in limited release on November 27th, 2024.
The Seed of the Sacred Fig is written, co-produced and directed by Mohammad Rasoulof. It stars Soheila Golestani, Missagh Zareh, Mahsa Rostami and Setareh Maleki.
In the film, investigating judge Iman grapples with paranoia amid political unrest in Tehran. When his gun vanishes, he suspects his wife and daughters, imposing draconian measures that strain family ties as societal rules crumble.
The Seed of the Sacred Fig had its premiere in the main competition of the 77th Cannes Film Festival, where it was nominated for the Palme d'Or, winning the Special Jury Prize. Ahead of its premiere, Rasoulof was sentenced to eight years in prison by Iranian authorities. After successfully fleeing to Germany, Rasoulof and other cast and crew members attended the Cannes' red carpet premiere.
The film was named Best International Film by the National Board of Review and is nominated for Best International Feature at this year’s Oscars.
