GKIDS is expected to release their animated comedy-drama GHOST CAT ANZU on VOD and digital platforms early next year, arriving on January 28th, 2025. The film world premiered in the Director’s Fortnight section of this year’s Cannes Film Festival and launched in US theaters on November 15th, 2024.

Please note: GKIDS have neither announced nor confirmed the release date. As always, release dates are subject to change.

Ghost Cat Anzu is directed by Yōko Kuno and Nobuhiro Yamashita and produced by Shin-Ei Animation and Miyu Productions. Based on the manga of the same name by Takashi Imashiro, the film’s English voice cast stars Jason Simon, David Goldstein, Evie Hsu, Andrew Kishino, and Erica Schroeder.

In the film, precocious tween Karin finds herself abandoned by her father in rural Japan. Living in a temple with her grandfather, she meets Anzu, a giant "ghost cat" and notorious layabout tasked with looking after her. Distrustful of her new guardian, Karin sabotages Anzu's odd jobs for the townsfolk and befriends the eccentric local forest spirits. In an effort to win Karin over, Anzu accidentally makes a deal with the devil, and all Hell breaks loose.

We’ve added the release date to our streaming calendar. Pre-order from Amazon below and check out the film’s official US trailer.
