The Oscar-nominated AMERICAN FICTION has set an SVOD premiere date, arriving on the MGM+ streaming subscription service on March 8th, 2024. The film premiered in limited release in US theaters on December 15th, 2023, and is expected to arrive on digital and VOD platforms on February 6th, 2024.

American Fiction was written and directed by Cord Jefferson, in his feature directorial debut. Based on the 2001 novel Erasure by Percival Everett, the film follows a frustrated novelist-professor who writes an outlandish satire of stereotypical "black" books, only for his novel to be mistaken for serious literature and published to both high sales and critical praise. It stars Jeffrey Wright, Tracee Ellis Ross, Issa Rae, Sterling K. Brown, John Ortiz, Erika Alexander, Leslie Uggams, Adam Brody, and Keith David.

Interestingly, last year MGM fast-tracked its Best Picture Oscar nominee WOMEN TALKING to SVOD, giving it a limited release on Amazon Prime during the Oscar voting period. It will be interesting to see if they follow suit and do the same with American Fiction. We’ll keep an eye out for it.

We’ve added the release date to our streaming calendar.
