Netflix has set a streaming release date for its documentary JEAN-MICHEL BASQUIAT, which will begin streaming on their platform on December 11, 2026. The film world premiered at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival.
Jean-Michel Basquiat is co-directed by Quinn Whitney Wilson and Viridiana Lieberman, and marks Wilson’s directorial feature debut alongside her co-director Lieberman, editor of the Oscar-nominated documentary The Perfect Neighbor.
The documentary is a reclamation of what has been lost in the legacy of a globally renowned artist. Through untold memories from close friends and family, never-before-seen works, and rare archival imagery, this film demystifies the story of Basquiat and discovers the man behind it all, Jean-Michel.
The Jean-Michel Basquiat documentary is supported by and approved by the Estate of Jean-Michel Basquiat. This is the first documentary approved by the artist’s estate, which is co-administered by his sisters, Jeanine Heriveaux and Lisane Basquiat.
