Greta Gerwig’s NARNIA: THE MAGICIAN’S NEPHEW Shifts to 2027, Gets Netflix Streaming Premiere Date

Netflix has announced a new theatrical release date and set a streaming date for their highly anticipated epic NARNIA: THE MAGICIAN’S NEPHEW, which will be released in theaters February 12th, 2027, and on Netflix April 2nd, 2027.

Written for the screen and directed by Greta Gerwig, the film stars David McKenna, Beatrice Campbell, Emma Mackey, Carey Mulligan, Ciarán Hinds, with Daniel Craig and Meryl Streep, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, Denise Gough, and Susan Wokoma.

Here’s the official logline: “Academy Award–nominated filmmaker Greta Gerwig brings C. S. Lewis’s beloved story The Magician’s Nephew to the screen for the first time in a sweeping adventure that invites dreamers of all ages to experience the creation of Narnia.”

The movie will feature an original score by Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt, who previously worked with Gerwig on Barbie, and music supervision by George Drakoulias.

First published in 1955, The Magician’s Nephew “shows how all the comings and goings between our own world and the land of Narnia first began,” as the novel’s opening lines read, and leads to the events of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, which launched in 1950. The seven Narnia books have sold more than 120 million copies across 70 different countries worldwide and have been adapted into more than 60 different languages to date.

The Chronicles of Narnia series includes:

  • The Magician’s Nephew (1955)
  • The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (1950)
  • The Horse and His Boy (1954)
  • Prince Caspian: The Return to Narnia (1951)
  • The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (1952)
  • The Silver Chair (1953)
  • The Last Battle (1956)

Clive Staples Lewis (1898–1963), better known as C. S. Lewis, was one of the intellectual giants of the 20th century and arguably one of the most influential writers and theologians of his day. He was a Fellow and Tutor in English literature at Oxford University until 1954, when he was unanimously elected to the Chair of Medieval and Renaissance Literature at Cambridge University, a position he held until his retirement.

Lewis wrote more than 30 books, allowing him to reach a vast audience, and his works continue to attract millions of new readers every year. Lewis’s most distinguished and popular accomplishments include Mere Christianity, The Screwtape Letters, A Grief Observed, and the universally acknowledged classics in The Chronicles of Narnia series.

Sneak previews only in IMAX will begin on February 10, 2027.
