The Amazon MGM Studios romantic drama PREPARATION FOR THE NEXT LIFE is set to make its SVOD debut later this month, arriving on MGM+ on November 19th, 2025. The film launched in US theaters on September 5th, 2025.
Preparation for the Next Life is directed by Bing Liu, from a screenplay by Martyna Majok. It is based on the 2014 novel by Atticus Lish, and stars Sebiye Behtiyar and Fred Hechinger. It
In the film, Aishe, a Uyghur woman trained by her military father, migrates to New York City where she finds herself laboring in Chinatown’s underground kitchens. She fatefully encounters Skinner, a young American soldier who has just returned from three tours in the Middle East. While falling in love, they discover the possibility of a better life together than the ones they believed they were destined to live alone.
Preparation for the Next Life was recently nominated for two Gotham Awards: Best Adapted Screenplay for Martyna Majok, and Breakthrough Performer for Sebiye Behtiyar.
