Magnolia Pictures is set to release the oddball comedy TAPAWINGO on VOD and digital platforms early next month, arriving on December 2nd, 2025. The film launched in US theaters in limited release on November 14th, 2025.
Tapawingo is written by Brad DeMarea and Dylan K. Narang, and directed by Narang. It stars Jon Heder, Billy Zane , Gina Gershon , John Ratzenberger, Amanda Bearse, Jay Pichardo, and Kim Matula.
In the film, Nate Skoog and his best friend Will are two cool, chronically under-challenged dudes who drift between the local rec center and the Elk’s Lodge, logging hours of bingo among Tapawingo’s most seasoned party animals. The crowd is old but wild, and the beer is plentiful.
When they are not hanging loose, they train. For what, exactly, is unclear. It could be saving nuns from rogue contras, storming off-grid rebel encampments, or rescuing orphans from the Red Army Tiger Force. Whatever the mission, they will be ready. Until then, their de facto headquarters is the Tapawingo Regional Library.
Destiny finally arrives — in the form of a school pickup.
Nate learns that his boss’s awkward son is being targeted by a surprisingly organized bully ring. To Nate, this is the moment he has trained for. He answers the call with complete conviction.
He assembles the least qualified security team in North America. Homemade tactics, misplaced courage, and unwavering loyalty escalate things quickly, culminating in a showdown with the Tarwater clan — Tapawingo’s unofficial dynasty of generational bullies.
What begins as protecting one bullied kid becomes the high-stakes mission Nate and Will always imagined… minus the nuns, plus real danger, and absolutely no adult supervision.
