Cannes Prize Winner LA BOLA NEGRA Sets Theatrical, Netflix Streaming Premiere Dates

The Cannes prize-winning drama LA BOLA NEGRA is set to make its streaming debut later this year, arriving on Netflix on December 4th, 2026. The film will first hit US theaters on November 6th, 2026.

La Bola Negra (The Black Ball) is directed by Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi, from a screenplay they co-wrote with Alberto Conejero. A queer epic inspired by the unfinished work of the same name by Federico García Lorca and Conejero’s play La piedra oscura, its ensemble cast is led by Guitarricadelafuente, Miguel Bernardeau, Carlos González, Milo Quifes, Lola Dueñas, Penélope Cruz, and Glenn Close.

The Spanish film — directed, co-written, and produced by filmmakers Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi, who won the Best Director prize at Cannes — follows three men whose lives span moments in Spanish history across the 20th and 21st centuries, bound together through desire, pain, inheritance, and an exploration of queer identity.
