The A24 sports biopic THE SMASHING MACHINE is set to make its SVOD premiere next month, premiering on HBO Max on January 23rd, 2026. The film world premiered at this year’s Venice Film Festival, and launched in US theaters on October 3rd, 2025. It hit PVOD on November 4th, 2025.
The Smashing Machine is written, directed, co-produced, and co-edited by Benny Safdie. It stars Dwayne Johnson, Emily Blunt, Lyndsey Gavin, Oleksandr Usyk, Bas Rutten, Ryan Bader, Satoshi Ishii, James Moontasri, and Yoko Hamamura.
In the film, in the late 1990s, up-and-coming mixed martial artist Mark Kerr aspires to become the greatest fighter in the world. However, he must also battle his opiod dependence and a volatile relationship with his girlfriend Dawn.
