Ava DuVernay Documentary 14TH Sets Netflix Streaming Premiere Date

Netflix has set a streaming premiere date for their Ava DuVernay documentary 14TH, which will launch on their platform on December 4th, 2026. The film is slated to world premiere at the upcoming New York Film Festival before launching in US theaters in limited release on November 27th, 2026.

14th is directed by Ava DuVernay, and features Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Anna Paulina Luna, Jeff Flake, Alex Padilla, Sherrilyn Ifill, Robert Chang, and Stacey Abrams.

The documentary examines the equal protection and citizenship-focused 14th amendment, which was ratified in 1868 in the turbulent era of Reconstruction and has been a contentious part of the American body politic ever since.

Written in the wreckage of the Civil War, the 14th Amendment was meant to close the door on the hierarchy of human worth. Instead, it has become the subject of a permanent argument. DuVernay’s 14th pulls this constitutional fight out of the footnotes and into the present, chronicling the vicious battle over the amendment that has raged for over 150 years.

Threading deep archival scholarship with piercing headlines from today, 14th brings together legal minds, politicians, historians, and cultural voices in direct conversation with a question America still hasn’t settled: Who gets to belong?

We’ve added the release date to our Streaming Calendar.
