Update 12/14: HBO Max has pushed up the premiere date for the animated blockbuster NE ZHA II, though the exact premiere date is still a bit in question.
The HBO Max website has two separate premiere dates listed:
As you can see, both December 19th and December 20th appear on separate tiles. HBO Max almost always launches new SVOD titles on Fridays, so we’re leaning towards 12/19. But! The ‘Coming in December’ HBO Max press release was revised with 12/20 as the launch date.
So we’re holding off on adding it to our Streaming Calendar until we can get clarification. But the film will certainly premiere this week!
The animated blockbuster NE ZHA II is set to make its SVOD debut next month, arriving on HBO Max on December 24th, 2025. The film launched in US theaters earlier this year on February 14th, 2025, and was re-released on August 22nd. It hit PVOD on September 16th, 2025.
Ne Zha 2 is written and directed by Jiao Zi, and features the English-language voice talent of Michelle Yeoh, Crystal Lee, Vincent Rodriguez III, and Aleks Le.
In the film, A rebellious young boy, Ne Zha, is feared by the gods and born to mortal parents with wild, uncontrolled powers. Now he’s faced with an ancient force intent on destroying humanity, he must grow up to become the hero the world needs.
