According to our sources, NEON is expected to release their acclaimed Brazilian political thriller THE SECRET AGENT on VOD and digital platforms later this month, arriving on January 27th, 2026. The film world premiered at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival and launched in US theaters on November 26th, 2025.

The Secret Agent is written and directed by Kleber Mendonça Filho, and stars Wagner Moura, Maria Fernanda Candido, Gabriel Leone, Carlos Francisco, Alice Carvalho, Roberio Diogenes, Hermila Guedes, Igor De Araujo, Italo Martins, Laura Lufesi, Udo Kier, Roney Villela, and Isabél Zuaa.
In the film, Marcelo (Wagner Moura) is a researcher who finds himself on the run from mercenary killers after becoming the unwitting target of a dictator’s political tumult amid the ruthless, mischievous spirit of 1977 Brazil. With the help of compatriots in the country’s growing underground resistance, Marcelo hopes to escape Brazil with his young son.
At the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, The Secret Agent was the festival’s most awarded film, winning the Best Actor award for Moura, the Best Director award for Mendonça Filho, the Art House Cinema Award and the FIPRESCI Prize for Best Film.
The film is also nominated for 3 Golden Globe Awards, including Best Motion Picture – Drama, Best Foreign Language Film, and Best Actor – Drama for Moura.
