Strange Way of Life Gets Theatrical Date, Paired With The Human Voice

Courtesy: Sony Pictures Classics

Pedro Almodóvar’s short film STRANGE WAY OF LIFE has been locked for a theatrical release on October 6, 2023. The film will open in limited release in New York and Los Angeles, and then expand nationwide on October 13th.

Also notable is that it will be screened with Almodóvar’s previous short film, THE HUMAN VOICE. That film was produced in 2020, and released in the US in 2021, but obviously during a time many were not going to theaters. The two short films represent the only English-language projects Almodóvar has produced to date. Sony Pictures Classics handles distribution on both movies.

STRANGE WAY OF LIFE features Pedro Pascal and Ethan Hawke, who play two gunmen who reunite after many years apart. The reaction to the film when it screened at May’s Cannes Film Festival was mixed/positive, with Variety’s Peter Debruge calling it ‘a glorified fashion commercial.’ Rolling Stone’s David Fear was more positive, praising it as ‘a provocative movie that brings out the best in both of its leads.’

A new Almodóvar is always an event, even when it’s in short-form. And the chance to see THE HUMAN VOICE on the big screen is also special. We mistakenly posted a streaming release date for STRANGE WAY OF LIFE on Twitter, and it was unfortunately not the US date. We’ll post as soon as we have news of a digital launch.
