MY FATHER’S SHADOW Sets MUBI Streaming Premiere Date

The acclaimed drama MY FATHER’S SHADOW is set to make its streaming debut next month, arriving on MUBI on April 10th, 2026. The film world premiered in the Un Certain Regard section or the 2025 Cannes Film Festival before launching in US theaters on February 6th, 2026.

My Father’s Shadow is directed by Akinola Davies Jr., in his feature length film debut, from a screenplay he co-wrote with his brother Wale Davies. It stars Sope Dirisu, Godwin Chiemerie Egbo, and Chibuike Marvellous Egbo.

In the film, two young brothers explore Lagos with their estranged father during the 1993 Nigerian election crisis, witnessing both the city’s magnitude and their father’s daily struggles as political unrest threatens their journey home.

My Father’s Shadow was critically acclaimed, receiving numerous awards and nominations, including a BAFTA Award for Outstanding Debut, a British Independent Film Award (Best Director) and two Gotham Independent Film Awards (Breakthrough Director, Outstanding Lead Performance – Dirisu). It was also selected as the UK’s entry for Best International Feature Film at the 98th Academy Awards, but was not nominated.
