Janus Films is set to release their historical drama MAGELLAN on VOD and digital platforms next month, arriving on March 17th, 2026. The film world premiered at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival before launching in the US on January 9th, 2026.
Magellan is written and directed by Lav Diaz, and stars Gael García Bernal, Ângela Azevedo, Amado Arjay Babon, Ronnie Lazaro, and Hazel Orencio.
Gael García Bernal stars as the famed Portuguese explorer as he embarks on his first voyage across the vast Pacific Ocean in this globe-spanning epic from Lav Diaz-a radical retelling of European narratives of discovery and exploration that presents the colonization of the Philippines as a primal, shocking encounter with the unknown.
Magellan was selected as the Philippines’ entry to the 98th Academy Awards for Best International Feature Film, but was not nominated.
