Venice 2024: First Reactions to Walter Salles’ I’M STILL HERE

The Venice Film Festival got underway earlier this week, and reactions to some of the highly-anticipated world premieres are starting to arrive.

In Walter Salles’ I’M STILL HERE, Brazil in 1971 faces the tightening grip of a military dictatorship. Eunice Paiva, a mother of five children is forced to reinvent herself after her family suffers a violent and arbitrary act by the government. The film is based on Marcelo Rubens Paiva's biographical book and tells the true story that helped reconstruct an important part of Brazil’s hidden history.

The film stars Fernanda Torres, Selton Mello, and Oscar-nominee Fernanda Montenegro. It was written by Murilo Hauser and Heitor Lorega.

I’m Still Here premiered today at the Venice Film Festival, and will be released by Sony Pictures Classics in the US. The distributor has not announced a theatrical launch date.
