The adult animated Polish drama THE PEASANTS is set to make its SVOD debut next month, launching on Netflix on July 11th, 2024. The film world premiered at the 2023 Toronto Film Festival before launching in limited release in US theaters on January 26th, 2024.

The Peasants was directed and written by DK Welchman and Hugh Welchman. An adaptation of Władysław Reymont's Nobel Prize-winning novel of the same name, the film was produced using the painted animation technique similar to the pair's previous film, Loving Vincent.

The film stars an ensemble cast featuring Kamila Urzędowska, Robert Gulaczyk, Mirosław Baka, Sonia Mietielica, Ewa Kasprzyk, Cezary Łukaszewicz, Małgorzata Kożuchowska, Sonia Bohosiewicz, Dorota Stalińska, Andrzej Konopka, Marcin Rusin and Maciej Musiał.

In the film, peasant girl Jagna is forced to marry the much older, wealthy farmer Boryna, despite her love for his son Antek. With time, Jagna becomes the object of envy and disdain with the villagers and she must fight to preserve her independence.
