Greenwich Entertainment has set a streaming release date for their crime drama THE CRITIC, which will arrive on VOD and digital platforms on October 29th, 2024. The film world premiered at the 2023 Toronto Film Festival before launching in US theaters on September 13th, 2024.

The Critic was directed by Anand Tucker and written by Patrick Marber, based on the 2015 novel Curtain Call by Anthony Quinn. The film stars Ian McKellen, Gemma Arterton, Mark Strong, Ben Barnes, Alfred Enoch, Romola Garai, and Lesley Manville.

In the film, Jimmy Erskine is the most feared theatre critic of the age. He lives as flamboyantly as he writes and takes pleasure in savagely taking down any actor who fails to meet his standards.

When the owner of the Daily Chronicle newspaper dies, and his son David Brooke takes over, Jimmy quickly finds himself at odds with his new boss and his position under threat. In an attempt to preserve the power and influence he holds so sacred, Jimmy strikes a Faustian pact with struggling actress Nina Land, entangling them and Brooke in a thrilling but deadly web of desire, blackmail, and betrayal.

We’ve added the release date to our streaming calendar. Check out the US trailer for the film below.
